RSA America and URM Stores set the standard for how wholesalers are scaling digital capabilities for independent grocers

CHICAGO, Oct. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — RSA America, the retail intelligence and engagement platform for independent grocers, today announced growing retailer adoption and brand participation following the May announcement of its partnership with URM Stores, a retailer-owned grocery wholesaler. To date, 75 URM-affiliated grocery stores, such as Super 1 Foods, Family Foods and Harvest Foods, are now live on RSA’s platform. RSA and URM have also secured and deployed 43 exclusive digital coupon offers from major consumer brands within three months, giving participating grocers more ways to deliver savings to their shoppers and strengthen customer loyalty.

The relationship between RSA and URM demonstrates how retail intelligence and consumer packaged goods (CPG) brand partnerships can reach the independent grocery market at scale without every retailer having to build the same capabilities on its own. By working through wholesalers that already serve large communities of independent grocers, RSA gives participating retailers a common foundation for understanding shopper behavior, targeting engagement, facilitating promotional offers and measuring what drives sales, while each grocer retains control of its own customer relationships and first-party data.

Scaling digital capabilities across the URM network

With 75 URM-affiliated stores now live on RSA’s platform, further expansion is expected throughout URM’s network of approximately 265 independent grocery retailers in the Pacific Northwest. The network-wide deployment reflects URM’s ‘no retailer left behind’ philosophy, giving even smaller independent grocers access to shopper engagement tools, first-party data insights and retail media opportunities historically concentrated among national chains.

“We’re always looking for ways to engage our shoppers, help them find value and keep them connected to their local grocery store,” Erika Sams, CEO of Harvest Foods Marketing. “Through URM’s partnership with RSA, we gain access to digital tools and brand offers that would be difficult for individual stores to secure on their own. We also gain a better understanding of what matters to our shoppers, helping us make our programs more relevant to the communities we serve.”

A model for broader wholesale adoption

The RSA and URM partnership is a model other wholesalers can use to accelerate retailer adoption, attract brand participation and deliver additional value to their independent grocery networks.

“Wholesalers already sit at the center of the independent grocery ecosystem, with relationships that can help bring retailers, brands and technology together at scale,” said Ravi Achanta, CEO of RSA America. “Our work with URM shows how those relationships can support a broader digital program that connects shopper intelligence, loyalty and brand participation. That gives retailers better information to guide their decisions, brands a measurable way to reach shoppers, and wholesalers another way to strengthen the value they deliver to their members.”

RSA strengthens wholesale expertise

RSA has also strengthened its wholesale strategy with the appointment of Thomas Olson as director of sales. Olson joins RSA after eight years with URM Stores, most recently as digital marketing and e-commerce manager. His earlier roles included retail marketing manager for Family Foods and CenterPlace Market and center-store specialist, giving him experience across store operations, shopper marketing and digital programs.

Olson has also served on the ROFDA Retail Media Networks Committee, which brings together retailer-owned food distributors to develop retail media opportunities for independent grocers. His experience will support RSA as it expands its work with other wholesaler and retailer networks.

“I have worked with independent grocers from the store floor through to digital marketing and ecommerce, so I have seen how difficult it can be for a retailer to turn customer and transaction data into something actually useful,” said Thomas Olson, director of sales at RSA America. “Wholesalers play an important role in closing that gap because they already understand the retailers they serve and can help create the scale needed to make those capabilities more accessible. What we have built through URM gives us a strong foundation for replicating and expanding that approach on a broader scale.”
