ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, September 23, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Neither Oakley nor Meta sells a prescription option for the Oakley Meta Vanguard, and the frame’s curved shield cannot be re-lensed. That gap has become the best selling product of a one man Swiss workshop.
Banana Sport Optics (bananaoptics.com) said its rimless prescription insert for the Oakley Meta Vanguard has become its best selling product in its first year on sale, ahead of every other frame the workshop builds for. The United States is its largest market, at more than four in ten Vanguard orders this year.
The Oakley Meta Vanguard is the sport model in Meta’s AI glasses line. Meta’s prescription program covers the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN, and its March 2026 expansion added the Ray-Ban Blayzer and Scriber. The Vanguard is the one model in the line with no prescription option at all, leaving buyers who wear glasses to choose between contact lenses and nothing.
The insert clips in behind the Vanguard’s shield on a nose pad the company designs and manufactures itself, developed with engineers at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, and carries the wearer’s prescription on a flat, rimless lens. The flat lens is deliberate: a prescription ground onto a curved base introduces oblique astigmatism and unwanted prism, and the error grows with the power of the lens. The Oakley frame is not modified and its cameras, speakers and microphones are unaffected. A complete insert weighs under 10 grams, which the company says is the lightest made for the frame.
The insert ships in four nose pad sizes, S, M, L and XL, which the company says is more fit options than any other insert made for the Vanguard. Since August 31, 2026, Banana Sport Optics has fitted every buyer from a digital face scan: two photographs, one with the frame and one without, from which the nose pad size, fitting height and lens centres are calculated before a lens is cut.
“Progressives and strong prescriptions are what people ask me about most,” said Ken Steiner, the company’s founder. “A flat lens, held at the distance the prescription was measured at, is what makes them work in a frame that wraps this hard. So far I have not had to say no to anyone.”
Inserts are made to order in Switzerland, ship worldwide in about two weeks and carry 30 day returns. The company said fewer than two in a hundred of its 2026 orders have been refunded and that no Oakley Meta Vanguard insert has been returned.
